Matero Ward Primary

We have, sort of by default, been working in the Primary in the Matero Ward.  And it has generally been a good experience.  It is a little difficult when the children don't speak or read English and I don't speak their native language!  But with the help of Baptiste, our teacher, and some of the older Young Women who help translate, we get by.  They are excited to show their art work!

I have tried to figure out ways to help them learn the songs.  We learned the words to this and then we taught them the sign language.  We sang and signed this song for our Primary Sacrament Meeting Program.  They actually did pretty well.  Some of the older children already knew the song and that helped so much. The next picture is one where we talked about how much service Bishop Chifunda gives to the ward.  Each child colored a paper flower for him and put it on a skewer and gave him a bouquet of flowers.  It was fun and he enjoyed it.  Shown are the Primary President and Baptiste with the Bishop and the primary kids.

They absolutely love to color and never get tired of coloring a picture from the lesson.  This time it is CTR Shields they are coloring and we also used them in our Sacrament program.

The older kids are very willing to help the younger ones.

One of our lessons was on choosing the right and I was able to buy and was given about 30 CTR Rings.  The kids loved them, as did many of the adults  There were many others who would have liked one, but I ran out.  I'll have to get more and have some on order at the Distribution Center.

African children are very beautiful with their dark skin and white eyes and teeth.  They just steal your heart right out of your chest!

Another lesson was on service so we made service chains with different things the children should do in order to tear off a chain.  After they did them all, it would be Christmas!
